After its successful runs in 2006 and 2008, the SGF 2010 is set to be even more spectacular than before.

In conjunction with the SGF, Nanyang Primary School is also jointly organizing the Intra-School Creative Floral Art Competition (held on 14th July) and the Inter-School Creative Floral Art Competition (held on 17th July).

As part of our schools enriched curriculum to enhance the artistic appreciation and interest in floral art of our pupils, the school is arranging for all P1 and P2 pupils to visit the SGF during curriculum time. Besides viewing the exhibits from the Intra and Inter-school competitions, the school has specially arranged for experienced guides from the National Parks Board to conduct a Sara Goes to Supermarket Garden tour for our pupils. In this tour, pupils will be given a hands-on experience at the Supermarket Garden where a variety of fruits and vegetables are grown. Parent Volunteers needed at the Chinese Pictorial Book Corner (绘本馆) in the library

Parent Volunteers Needed!
Chinese Pictorial Book Corner of NYPS has finally finished its STOCK-TAKING!
From next week onwards, all Parent Volunteers of CL pictorial book corner and teachers of NYPS are allowed to borrow the pictorial books out of the library. We have about 1000 Pictorial Books in the library and another 300 new books coming in 2 weeks later. We always update the corner with new books freshly imported in from countries such as China and Taiwan.
*NOTE: Only Parents who are helping out at the Pictorial Book Corner are allowed to borrow the books out of the library.
The pupils are still unable to borrow the books out of the library as the books are still relatively new and expensive. We may look into the probability of enabling the pupils to borrow these books out of the library from next year onwards when we managed to find parent volunteers who can help out with the administrative work.
Currently, we need 1-2 Parent Volunteer who can help us facilitate the borrowing and returning of CL Pictorial books in and out of the library. With your help, the pupils can therefore borrow and return the books in and out of the library.
Although we have a librarian in the library, she is unable to help out as her job scope does not require her to handle matters of the CL Pictorial Book Corner. The books from the CL Pictorial Book Corner are also not recorded into the library system.
Therefore, we would like to appeal for Parent Volunteers who are willing to help out as a librarian of the library, and facilitate the borrowing and returning of Pictorial Books. Your job is to help take down names and contact numbers of those who came to borrow/return Pictorial Books and remind them of the date of return. Also, you may have to track down the people who have forgotten to return the books before the deadline.
Working time is flexible. You may report to the library at 8.30am and leave at 12pm sharp from Monday-Friday. If we manage to find more parent volunteers, we may look into staggering your schedule so that you may not have to report to the library 5 days a week.
There is no requirement for you to speak fluent mandarin.
If you are interested to be part of us, please kindly email me at lim_ke_xin@nyps.edu.sg or call me in school to find out more. You may also go to CL Pictorial Blog: http://www.nypshbg.blogspot.com/ to find out more.

Looking forward to your kind support :)
Cheers,

To Nanyang With Love - Art Exhibition

The Nanyang Alumni Association, Nanyang Primary and Nanyang Girls’ High School are going to organise a fund raising art event for Nanyang Primary Indoor Sports Hall and other construction projects. The art exhibition will be held at The ARTrium, MICA Building from 25th to 28th March 2010.

Other than having art work for sale at the exhibition, there is also a ‘Birthday Calendar’ available for sale at $50 each. This calendar is not a conventional time-bound calendar. It is one that allows you or your child to note down the birthdays of loved ones. The calendar is filled with lovely graphics and contains pictures of artworks painstakingly created by pupils and teachers of Nanyang Primary school as well as by the Nanyang Schools Alumni Association. As such, this calendar will serve as a precious momento for your child, even after he/she leaves the school.

Below are pictures to provide you with a glimpse of what this ‘Birthday Calendar’ looks like. We really hope you can support us in this fund raising art event by purchasing a copy of the calendar.

To show your support, just fill up the Order Form which will be given together with a letter by tomorrow. Payments to be made by cheque made payable to 'Nanyang Primary School'. Generous donations above the listed price of $50 is most appreciated and we really thank you for your support!

Enrichment in Week 3

Dear Parents,

Enrichment classes will start next week. The school has requested these vendors to send their teachers to pick up your child at 1.15 pm if they have signed up for enrichment. These teachers will then bring the children down for lunch in the canteen. These children will then be gathered in the meeting point at 1.45 pm and will be brought to the respective venus for their enrichment lessons, not later than 2.15 pm.

There will also be transport at 4 pm to bring your child back home. Do check with your bus operator for the Bus Number, as your child may not be taking the same bus as the one that sends him/her to school.

Please remind your child to stay back if you have signed him/her for that particular lesson.

Thank you.

Meet the Parents Session with the Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Mrs Lee, the Principal, will be holding a meeting with you on 9 Jan 2010 (Saturday) at 8.30 am, in the school Hall. As there is limited parking lots within the school compound, you might want to park your car at the nearby HDB carparks near the school.

Important Message for Parents

1) P1 Orientation 2009
A 3-days orientation programme with broad themes like Care and Share, Personal Hygiene, Conflict Resolution, Buddy Programme etc was planned for the children. We have also incorporated guided tours around the school compound. Pupils were also taught the values of teamwork and coperation through games in the hall. They were also told a story titled "Apple Story" which emphasizes the school's belief that every child is a star in Nanyang. We believe that the children would make beneficial gails from our orientation programme and we would appreciate your assistance to reinforce the learnt concepts at home. We welcome any feedback on this programme.

2) Communication with Parents
In each child's diary, there is a label with your child's form class blog address. Teachers will update their blogs at least once a week or may post important notices. Do check the blog regularly.

3) Five Minutes Break Interval
The school has implemented two sessions of 5 minutes break interval during the curriculu, they are from 8.45 am to 8.50 am and 12.30 pm to 12.25 pm. The objectives of this break are to allow children to visit the toilets, prepare for the next lesson, take things out from their lockers and communicate with their friends. It is a little time out for pupils and a vision break between lessons.

4) Hair Length of Girls
The school has decided to allow girls to keep long hair. However, girls with long hair have to keep them tied up and look neat. Our teachers may advise parents accordingly if your child is unable to keep it neat and tidy during school hours.

4) Remedial and After School Enrichment ProgrammeThere will be NO remedial lesson for our P1 pupils in Term 1 and after school enrichment progammes will commence from Week 3.

5)Lunch Programme
The school sells pre-packed lunch that cost $1 for children who are staying back for enrichment classes at the canteen. Please make provision for your child's lunch if he/she is staying back.
